The 1960s marked a period of rapid growth as UUS expanded beyond Kentucky to better support utility partners throughout the Midwest. Distribution operations grew into Ohio and Illinois, the Bishop Lane facility expanded in 1967, and by 1968, UUS had manufactured its 100,000th transformer while helping cooperatives benefit from more competitive pricing and dependable supply.

As the cooperative’s service territory expanded, so did its infrastructure. New warehouse locations opened in Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Alabama, bringing inventory closer to customers. In 1974, the organization formally became United Utility Supply Cooperative, reflecting its broader regional presence and commitment to serving utility partners across multiple states.

During these decades, UUS focused on operational excellence, strengthening relationships with member cooperatives, and continuously improving its ability to deliver critical products and services. This commitment culminated in 1996 with the production of UUS’s 1,000,000th transformer, a milestone representing decades of trusted partnership and dependable service.

To support continued growth and improve supply chain efficiency, UUS opened its Cooperative Distribution Center in Louisville in 2000. The 18-acre facility became a strategic hub for transformers and utility materials, helping ensure products were available when customers needed them most.

As the utility industry changed, UUS adapted to better meet customer needs. In 2015, the organization transitioned from transformer manufacturing to a distribution-focused model and established a long-term distribution partnership with ERMCO, expanding access to transformer solutions across a large portion of the eastern United States.

Over the past several years, UUS has experienced a period of significant transformation. Building on decades of trusted service, the organization shifted its focus from maintaining operations to proactively investing in growth, innovation, and long-term value for its utility partners. This evolution has helped position UUS as a stronger, more agile organization prepared to meet the changing needs of the industry.

Beginning in 2023, UUS launched major investments across its distribution network, including ongoing warehouse improvements in Kentucky and Pennsylvania, as well as the opening of a new warehouse in Virginia. In 2024, the Illinois warehouse complex was expanded, and operations in Alabama moved to a larger facility in Wetumpka to better support customer demand. Continuing its growth strategy, UUS acquired property in Indiana in 2025 for a future warehouse location. Today, UUS operates a multi-state distribution network and continues to invest in the partnerships, infrastructure, and services that help utility customers succeed.
